They say if you wait long enough, everything comes back into style eventually. Like those bell bottoms your mum wore in the 70s, avocado bathroom suites and crochet. And while admittedly some old trends definitely belong in the past, hog roasts have more than earned their comeback.
It wasn’t all that long ago that having one at your wedding was considered a bit of a risky move. Plenty of people thought they were too casual and didn’t quite fit with traditional etiquette, so for a while, Britain fell out of love with this iconic dish. Thankfully, those dark days are behind us and if Hog Roast Budleigh Salterton has anything to do with it, they’re staying there.
Because somewhere around the late 2000s and 2010s, couples cottoned on to the fact that their wedding didn’t have to follow the same formula as everyone else’s. Once rustic and festival-style weddings became the ‘in’ thing, hog roasts came roaring back with them – and demand has only grown since.
These days Hog Roast Budleigh Salterton barely goes a week without a wedding in the diary, and when wedding season’s in full swing it gets even busier. Take last month for example, our team catered back-to-back weddings right up to the end of the season, treating dozens of celebrations to one of our signature pigs.

We had a brilliant time at every single event we attended, but the one that stands out most took place on the 19th of September, when we catered a wedding nearby for 130 guests. The couple asked for our famous hog roast with all the trimmings, including sage and onion stuffing, crackling and applesauce, and it went down an absolute storm. The sight, the smell, the taste – everything about it had guests absolutely enamoured.
And, of course, the beauty of a hog roast is how versatile it is. Pretty much anything works alongside it, so Hog Roast Budleigh Salterton also served up tomato and mozzarella salad, mixed salad, coleslaw and a potato side, plus marinated chicken thighs and a properly tasty meat-free option, so nobody was left out.
The couple were absolutely thrilled with the spread and couldn’t have been happier they’d given the humble hog roast a starring role on their big day. Turns out, the comeback kid is here to stay.
