There’s a moment when a new booking comes in and you just know it’s going to be a good one. For Hog Roast Taunton, that moment arrived when a client called needing catering for 650 guests at a construction property handover event. Six hundred and fifty. A corporate handover event has its own rhythm. There are schedules to keep, impressions to make and a lot of people who need feeding efficiently before the afternoon gets away from everyone. With a 12pm serving time locked in, the Hog Roast Taunton team was up and at it well before most people had even thought about breakfast. Fuelled by no small amount of caffeine and the kind of energy that only comes with a properly exciting booking, the team got to work coaxing the pigs to that deep, golden-brown finish that takes both time and patience to get right. Once the carving started – pulling apart the soft, tender pork and separating every last shard of crackling – things really started to come together.
Guests lined up for sandwiches loaded with pulled pork, sage and onion stuffing, applesauce, mixed salad and coleslaw. Simple combinations done properly, which is always the move when you’re feeding a crowd that size. Veggie and vegan guests had their own equally delicious options – grilled vegetable kebabs or plant-based BBQ pulled jackfruit sliders topped with coleslaw. Nobody left the queue empty-handed or short-changed on our watch. And despite the scale of it all, service ran smoothly from start to finish and the event kept its momentum throughout.
