Weddings have changed a fair bit in recent years, haven’t they? Whether it’s a knock-on effect of COVID, the cost of living squeeze, a generational shift or a combination of all three, we’re not quite sure. But what we are sure of is that more and more couples are choosing to abandon tradition and do what feels right for them.
For a lot of couples, that seems to be destination weddings set against bright blue skies and sandy backdrops, or micro celebrations with just close friends and family present here at home. But even if you choose to say “I do” somewhere small and low-key, that doesn’t mean the bigger celebration has to disappear entirely – you can always plan that part for later.
This wedding season, Hog Roast Weston-super-Mare has worked with plenty of couples who did exactly that – small ceremony first, big celebration to follow. Call it a belated wedding do, a happily-ever-after party, or a post-wedding bash, whatever name you give it, these events are a genuinely great compromise for couples who want the intimacy of a small wedding without giving up celebrating properly with everyone they love. Basically, having your cake and eating it too.
Our latest clients came to Hog Roast Weston-super-Mare with exactly this in mind, and we were thrilled to help them pull it off. With 95 guests to feed, they wanted plenty of variety, and our catering manager, Rob, had the perfect menu sorted in no time.
Starting with our signature hog roast and all the usual trimmings – because, of course – we rounded things out with bread rolls, wraps, tomato and mozzarella salad, mixed salad, coleslaw, a potato
dish, marinated chicken thighs and chunky sausages, just to make sure every craving was adequately covered. And don’t worry, we didn’t forget the veggies and vegans in the group – colourful veggie kebabs and smoky-sweet BBQ pulled jackfruit buns, made sure nobody left hungry.
The couple were absolutely thrilled with how the spread fit into their celebration – and that it kept the guests fed and happy well into the night.
